Step outside the privacy of The Blackwood and wander up Woodlands Avenue into the historic village of Sassafras.

DINING - Enjoy a coffee at one of the many delightful coffee shops including the recently opened designer bakery "Proserpina" or the legendary "Miss Marples Tea Room". 

Bring home delicious cheeses, breads, spreads, nuts and chocolates from Cream in Sassafras. Have a leisurely lunch at "Ripe" cafe - a local favourite. 

There is also the ‘Piggery” cafe at "Burnham Beeches" estate in Sherbrooke, where master chef Shannon Bennet is currently working his magic.

SHOPPING - Buy yourself some gorgeous clothing from one of the many fashion stores in the main street, including “Quirky of Sassafras” and the ethically inspired “From Dust”.

Visit “Gepetto’s Workshop” stocking over 400 amazing toys from around the world, or drop in to Tea Leaves, with its collection of tea pots, cups and 300 plus loose teas. 

Pamper yourself with some body products from "Soak", have your future told at "The Oracle", or treat yourself to some goodies at “The Sassafras Sweet Co”. The choices are endless.

FURTHER AFIELD - If you feel like a drive don't miss Olinda, for more shopping, including Mangana, an emporium of beautiful items for your home. There are further shops, cafes and restaurants here also.

The fabulous gardens of Cloudehill in Olinda are wonderful in any season, and you can enjoy lunch or morning or afternoon tea at "Seasons" Restaurant while you're there.

A drive to the Yarra Valley is also a must, to visit our world acclaimed vineyards and wineries. Favourites include Yering Station, De Bortoli, and Coombe Estate.

RECREATION - The Dandenongs are famous for the "SkyHigh Lookout" (commanding incredible views over Melbourne) as well as five glorious public gardens.

You can take forest rambles through the vast National Parks and challenging hikes up the 1000 steps of the Kokoda trail at Ferntree Gully.

Other favourites include the famous "William Rickets Sanctuary", the "Puffing Billy" steam train, and the "Alfred Nicholas Gardens", which are just beautiful!
